The hospital kiosk initiative aims at capturing data on birth/death registration at the source itself, to ensure transparent, accountable, fast and fair public service by linking the concerned Registration Units viz. Municipality, Corporation/ Grama Panchayat offices over a dial-up/ VPN communication infrastructure. Sevana - Hospital Kiosk application software developed by IKM ensures that the data collected is complete and reliable.
The application, using the communication infrastructure, ensures that Birth and Death certificates are issued at the hospital within 24 hours of the event, thus making a quantum jump in public service delivery.
The project started functioning in 2005 and initially covered only the 5 Corporations of the State. Later considering its utility it was extended to Municipalities and Grama Panchayats. Hospital kiosks have been established in 103 Local Governments covering 398 Hospitals and Kannur cantonment. The monthly coverage of birth reported through Hospital Kiosk is 35,000.
Through this facility about 73% percent of the state's births are reported online to the registration Unit. The technology makes birth and death certificates available to informants within 24 hours of registration.
